Course & scientific program

The school is organized as a 1-week on-site intensive course, with lectures, workshops, and practical sessions. A virtual initial phase, during the month before the on-site school, will include 5 introductory seminars on semiology, EEG, neuroimaging, neuropathology and animal models.

Spanish, Portuguese, and English are the official languages at LASSE. Lectures will be given in the speaker's preferred language.

Working groups

Each participant will be assigned to a small working group with a preassigned topic and a faculty member to support them. The topics will be specific etiologies or related causal spectra, with a focus on knowledge gaps or regional challenges.

The task will be to perform a narrative review and update on the assigned topic, during a virtual stage, starting some weeks before the on-site School.

Each group will produce a written document summarizing current knowledge from both clinical and basic perspectives and will deliver a presentation on their results during the school.

Final documents are planned for publication as a joint LASSE report in a regional, indexed scientific journal.

Attendance and active participation in the working group, including the virtual phase, are mandatory.

While the final assignment to a working group will take into account many factors and will be defined by the organizers, we would like to know your preferences; therefore, in the application form, you will be asked to rank your interest in each topic. The predefined topics will be:

1. Post-traumatic epilepsy.
2. Vascular epilepsy.
3. Infections, immunity, and epilepsy.
4. Malformations of cortical development.
5. Hippocampus, dementia, and epilepsy.

Funding and finances

• LASSE is partially funded by ILAE. Efforts are made to obtain additional funding from other sources.
• The local Organizing Committee worked hard to obtain special rates to ensure affordable registration fees.
• The registration fee includes full access to the course (virtual phase and on-site school), full accommodation at the venue, all meals, and local transportation (Medellin airport – venue).
  • COP 2 500 000 (DBL room) – accommodation in a shared room with another participant
  • COP 3 500 000 (SGL room) – accommodation in a single room
• Methods of payment of these registration fees will be offered after acceptance as a student.
• LASSE will offer several bursaries to cover from 50% to 100% of the costs of accommodation (double occupancy room), full meals, and local transportation in Medellín. Exceptionally, LASSE may be able to offer a full bursary, including accommodation, meals, and airfare to Medellín.
• During the application process, you will be offered the option to apply for a 50%, 100% accommodation support, or even for a full bursary if that is a prerequisite for you to be able to attend the School.
• Efforts are made to promote support for participants from their original ILAE / IBE Chapters, as well as other local agencies or institutions. We strongly encourage you to contact your ILAE Chapter to know about these options and local requirements.
• While applicants from Colombia will be submitted to the same academic requirements, they may benefit from additional support from local Universities to cover their expenses during the course, so they are particularly encouraged to send their applications. Application process

• Applications will be open from Aug 24th to Oct 18th.
• Applications will only be received through this website.
• Incomplete application forms will not be considered.
• Selection of participants will consider academic achievements and profiles, while trying to ensure gender and geographical representation. The organizing committee will lead the selection process, and decisions will be unappealable.
• Results of candidates’ selection are expected to be ready by November 15th at the latest.
• If you are selected, you will receive an email asking for your confirmation, with a deadline notice. If you don't respond promptly, your place may be offered to another candidate. Therefore, we strongly recommend providing an email address you will check periodically during that time frame, as well as a WhatsApp contact. You should also check the Spam folder of your email account.
