LASSE XIX, Advanced

Understanding and challenging refractoriness

Guadalajara, Mexico

February 23-28, 2026

About this School

Course & Scientific Program

The school is organized as a 1-week on-site intensive course, with lectures, workshops and practical sessions. Full attendance to all activities is mandatory.

Check back often for up-to-date versions of the Scientific Program and teaching staff. The current version is available here.

Spanish, Portuguese, and English are the official languages at LASSE. Lectures will be given in the speaker’s preferred language.

Working Groups

All participants will join a small working group, each focused on a specific topic and guided by members of the teaching staff. Topics will address current controversies, knowledge gaps, and regional challenges.

Each group will be tasked with an in-depth review of the assigned subject, which may include conducting a small piece of original research to fill missing data. The work will culminate in a group output, such as a comprehensive report with a regional perspective or a proposal that addresses key aspects of the challenge, with potential regional or even international relevance.

The first stage of the work will begin virtually, a few weeks before the Course, and will continue throughout the in-person program. Active participation in both the virtual and in-person phases is mandatory.

While final group assignments will be determined by the organizers based on multiple factors, applicants will be asked to indicate their topic preferences in the application form.

This is the list of topics for LASSE XIX:

  1. Challenging the concept of pharmacoresistance in epilepsy
  2. Algorithms to predict pharmacoresistance
  3. Adapting animal models according to epilepsy etiology
  4. Research on drug-resistant epilepsy in Latin America: state and perspectives
  5. Therapeutic gap and access to antiseizure medications in Latin America

Funding and Financials

  • LASSE is partially funded by ILAE. Efforts are made to obtain additional funding from other sources.
  • The local Organizing Committee worked hard to obtain special rates as to ensure quite affordable registration fees.
  • Registration fees include full access to the course (both virtual phase and on-site school), accommodation from Feb 22 to Feb 28, 2026 at the venue, all meals and local transportation to and from the Guadalajara airport.
    • USD 800 (DBL room): accommodation in shared room with another participant
    • USD 1100 (SGL room): accommodation in single room
  • Methods of payment will be indicated after application acceptance.
  • LASSE will provide a number of bursaries covering accommodation in shared double rooms, full board, and local transportation in Guadalajara. In exceptional circumstances, a comprehensive bursary may also be granted, which will additionally include airfare to Guadalajara.
  • During the application process you will be offered the option to apply for a bursary, if that is a pre-requirement for you to be able to attend the school. In that case, you will be invited to submit a letter articulating the necessity for a regular or full bursary.
  • Efforts are made to promote support for participants from their original ILAE / IBE Chapters, as well as other local agencies or institutions. We strongly encourage you to contact your local ILAE Chapter to learn about options and requirements.
  • While applicants from Mexico will be evaluated based on the same academic requirements, they may benefit from additional support from the Universidad de Guadalajara to cover their expenses during the course, so they are particularly encouraged to apply.
  • If you have any query on financial issues, please do not hesitate to send us an email (address at the bottom of this page)
